Diver Down Flag - Do NOT Ignore It

It seems, more often than not, that the general public has become immune to the meaning of the Diver Down flag. It's that syndrome where you see the same thing over and over and eventually it loses meaning.
We want to remind you that when you see a red and white diver down flag it literally means that there is a diver underwater. If you see this flag at a marina next to your boat or yacht then there is a diver under your vessel performing underwater services. In addition to the flag, there should also be a notification at the point of boarding. Underwater diving companies have various methods of notification in addition to the diver down flag but it will be conspicuous at your point of boarding.
Unfortunately, there have been tragic boating accidents in South Florida where a diver was under a vessel when operations of the boat started. These tragedies are preventable if you remember to keep your eyes open for the diver down flag and are aware of not only your surroundings but the underwater environment in which we, as a dive company, operate. We are underwater, we don't see you nor do we hear you.
So, the next time you go to board your boat or yacht please take a look around. Do you see a dive flag? Were you to have maintenance performed on your vessel? Do you have confirmation that the diver has cleared the water? Please reacquaint yourself with the importance of the diver down flag and help prevent accidents.
